As a luxury hotel reviewer, I had the pleasure of experiencing this oasis of serenity, a perfect retreat from the bustling but icy streets of Paris, in January this year. It is easy in a city like Paris to get completely swept up into shopping, eating, walking and engaging in all things Parisian, as there is so much joy to be had, but I always recommend just a little bit of time out to restore some energy, as any trip to paris is intense in its own kind of way.
Le Meurice, part of the exclusive Dorchester Collection, is more than just a historic hotel; it’s a beacon of modern luxury and comfort. Spoiler alert– I have always adored this hotel.
Since its opening in 1835, the hotel has continuously evolved, thanks to the visionary leadership of Franka Holtmann, General Manager for the past 17 years, since 2006, and a woman who truly understand luxury, luxury hotels, luxury beauty, what makes wealthy people tick, as well as pure hard work.
The result is a delightful blend of 18th-century splendor and contemporary, modern luxury, with some of the best dining and bar experiences in Paris making it a prime destination for discerning global travellers.
At the heart of this luxury retreat lies Spa Valmont pour Le Meurice. The spa, a partnership with the renowned Swiss skincare brand Valmont, is a testament to the art of beauty and wellness.
The Swiss skincare brand Valmont’s philosophy is from their phyto-alpine garden in Val d’Hérens, Switzerland. Here, amidst the pristine alpine environment, Valmont cultivates the ingredients that form the unique and enriching essence of their luxurious skincare line. The brand is committed to natural, high-quality ingredients, and it was the hotels’ esteemed General Manager who actually discovered the brand and brought it to Paris.
The Valmont spa at le Meurice showcases Clinique Valmont’s commitment to combining medical advancements with the transformative power of their products. Each formulation, rich in active ingredients, is designed to rejuvenate, beautify, and restore youthfulness through carefully thought out blends of products, treatments and physical touch. It really is the ultimate in luxury Swiss skincare.
Entering Spa Valmont pour Le Meurice, you’re immediately enveloped in an ambiance of contemporary elegance, designed by Charles Jouffre with warm, helpful staff and a feeling of supportive and luxurious intimacy.
Before the 90 minute facial treatment, I spent time in both the gym area and the hammam. For me, this was the superlative way to leave my hectic Parisian day behind and spend some energy and emotion committing to myself and my own personal self care ritual.
The facilities, including new fitness equipment (both weights and cardio) sumptuous treatment suites, a sun-drenched terrace for warmer months, gender-specific saunas, hammam cabins, and the signature ice fountain, reflect Valmont’s Swiss heritage and commitment to luxury, and to wellness, an ever growing sector within the luxury hotel world.
The highlight of my visit was the incredible 90-minute Majestic facial, a sublime experience that incorporated a unique and physcially stimulating sculpting massage and collagen masks, showcasing Valmont’s expertise in anti-aging treatments.
The treatment rooms at Spa Valmont are sanctuaries of calm, adorned with soothing hues and natural wood. I adored the sparkling “stars” in the sky (on the ceiling) of the treatment room I was in, and the warmed bed I cocooned into for the 90 minute facial.
The therapist had flawless skin and a manner to match – she was completely focussed on my comfort and on my skin the entire time. My treatment included a facial massage, mask, and multiple masks and creams. It was sublime.
When it was over I floated into the waiting room where two incredible savoury seeded biscuits by the in-house pastry chef Cedric Groulet were presented to me – and they were absolutely delicious.
The spa’s treatments have a reputation as being nothing short of transformative.
Exclusive anti-aging facials and seasonally tailored services are highlights, with the Expert of Light treatment being particularly noteworthy for combating the harsh effects of cold weather.
Radiance Rituals harness the power of vitamin C for skin luminosity, while the Firmness Ritual employs expert facial massage techniques to smooth fine lines and relax facial muscles.
I had the most extraordinary experience. and whilst I was sad to leave, the elevator from the spa pops you out into the magnificent lobby of Le Meurice, where the beautiful bar (one of Paris’ best) and dining room are on offer to stretch out your time in the beautiful hotel just that bit longer.
