The Dorchester London United Kingdom offers a private club feel whilst staying in the lap of luxury in the heart of London.

The Dorchester London, overlooking Hyde Park just hosted my 18 year old daughter and I for a stay and it was an experience we will both remember forever, such is the staff, the facility, and the share history of this magnificent luxury hotel.

The Dorchester stands as a flamboyant palace of grandeur and one of London’s most storied luxury hotels. I stayed for the first time this year with my 18 year old daughter Stella, and it was absolutely exquisite on every level. We both had an incredible time.

Since its opening in 1931, this iconic hotel has welcomed generations of royalty, rockstars, actors, and discerning travelers. Families with children of all ages are welcome if not pampered here.

Among its glittering history, Prince Philip famously spent his last night as a bachelor here in 1947. Today, after an incredible recent refurbishment, The Dorchester has gracefully blended its classic 1930s glamour with contemporary elegance, creating a sophisticated sanctuary that continues to captivate guests with its refined service, lavish suites, award-winning dining, and world-class wellness.

But you don’t have to be famous to be treated as if you are when you stay at The Dorchester. The day we checked in, my daughter and I were greeted at the door of our suite by four butlers who all wanted to meet us and ensure we had everything we needed. When my daughter asked for an additional make-up light to be brought in, it appeared in minutes, and was set up so she had everything she needed to continue her regal daily routine.

The Dorchester stands not only as a bastion of timeless London glamour as well as timeless luxury but as a carefully modernised sanctuary ensuring every guest—from seasoned insiders to a newly diverse clientele—feels celebrated and indulged.

The Harlequin Penthouse is one of the largest and most sought after at The Dorchester. Its bespoke service, private chef’s dinner and dedicated butler place it as one of London’s priciest but most exceptional luxury stays.

The Dorchester recent refurbishment across rooms, public areas, and wellness facilities cements its position as one of London’s finest luxury hotels, uniquely balancing heritage and contemporary sophistication.

Whether enjoying Michelin-starred dining, cocktails at the Vesper Bar, or rejuvenation in the underground spa at 45 Park Lane, guests encounter a world of opulence finely tuned to the rhythms of each individual luxury guest.

For a quintessential London experience infused with culture, elegance, and impeccable service, The Dorchester remains peerless—and now more inviting than ever, and lets be honest, you never know who you will see at The Dorch.

One of the nights we were there, a huge event took place in the ballroom with hundreds of people dancing into the wee hours, yet it was only the next day when we asked why the hotel was so quiet were we informed that it was quiet because of its exceptionally well thought out design that ensures the delicate hush that goes with a five star hotel of this calibre remains that way no matter how many people are on site and in party mode.

Located in the heart of prestigious Mayfair in London on the bustling, iconic Park Lane with leafy Hyde Park as its stunning backdrop, The Dorchester enjoys a commanding yet serene position in the heart of Mayfair.

The hotel’s entrance faces the charming “Dorchester Garden,” providing a discreet sanctuary for guests, while the proximity to Hyde Park Corner tube station, Oxford Street shopping, and cultural hotspots makes it a perfect base for exploring London.

The location offers leafy views from many of the soundproofed rooms, combining urban buzz with natural calm.

While Park Lane is notoriously traffic-heavy, The Dorchester’s stunning soundproofing mitigates noise, allowing peaceful urban views.

Hyde Park Corner tube station and central London’s main attractions are within easy reach, providing a practical yet prestigious location—perfect for both leisure and business.

Design and Interiors: 10/10

The reimagined interiors, masterminded by the acclaimed Pierre-Yves Rochon, evoke the feel of walking through a quintessential English garden, with color palettes inspired by pale leaf green, rose fog pink, heather blue, and lemon yellow. The Promenade has always been iconic, but the renovations have simple elevated it to another level again. Who knew that was even possible?

The hotel’s 241 rooms and suites (reduced from 250 to create more spacious accommodation) feature floral-decorated headboards by Colefax and Fowler and hand painted paneling by de Gournay. Lavish marble bathrooms with the “deepest tubs in London” provide sanctuary, stocked with luxurious Wildsmith toiletries.

The public spaces, including the newly redesigned Promenade and the sparkling new Artists’ Bar showcasing original and diverse British artworks, evoke a jewel-like atmosphere of gilded elegance.

The James Bond-inspired Vesper Bar pays homage to classic 1930s glamour and serves as a chic social hub with its Palladium leaf ceiling, rich green velvet fabrics and outdoor terrace overlooking Hyde Park.

Rooms and Suites: 9/10

The rooms offer a luxurious blend of tradition and modernity, with sleek new furnishings that complement the hotel’s rich heritage.

The suites, particularly the Prestige Dorchester Suite, feel more like sumptuous private apartments with classic elements—high ceilings, chandeliers, fireplaces—melded effortlessly with contemporary touches such as bespoke sofas, leather ottomans, and state-of-the-art lighting systems for mood control.

We stayed in a front two roomed suite which was larger than most Sydney apartments. It was beautifully decored, with a hand painted navy blue bed head, and huge bathroom with a deep marble bath.

Suites at The Dorchester are magnificent

Bathrooms, with “his and hers” basins and walk-in showers, remain among the most opulent in London. Soundproofing and advanced climate control ensure restful comfort.

The lounge room was large enough for a full soft set as well as a long dining table to seat 8 people. There was nothing mini about the mini bar at all which was spectacularly huge and stood by ready for a party at a moment’s notice .

It tempted with bottles of Dom Perignon 2015, Veuve Cliquot, Louise Roderer Rose champagne, Whispering Angel rose, The Dorchester old Tom gin, the Dorchester Stag Leap wine cellars Karia Chardonnay, a 2023 Chablis as well as local chocolates and more.

The Dorchester Londons suites are stunningly spacious and luxe with views over Hyde Park

I even loved the gold embossed cups (you can see on my instagram) for coffee and tea, all supplied complimentary.

There was an elegant wooden desk in the lounge room with elegant writing paper, envelopes and pens in the draw which made working pure joy. The floor to ceiling windows led to a balcony and I was thrilled the doors opened so that on days when the heating got too much, I could step outside for a momentary air refresher.

Wellness and Spa: 10/10

Wellness is fast becoming a focus for the luxury traveller, and wellness seekers can indulge in the hotel’s serene spa, home to treatments by Ishga, Valmont, and Carol Joy London. The spa recently enhanced its offerings with a groundbreaking collaboration with Dr. Uliana Gout of Harley Street’s London Aesthetic Medicine Clinic, integrating cutting-edge cosmetic and aesthetic treatments to enhance natural beauty.

Guests can also access the adjacent 45 Park Lane’s underground spa, renowned as one of London’s finest, featuring a 20-meter pool, huge steam and sauna, a large spa, and soundwave relaxation loungers complete with fireplace to really unwind. Given its location underground, phones do not work – what a blessing to truly disconnect.

I used the sauna and spa daily, as well as the gym, which was so well equipped and spacious. Cardio, free weights and weights machines were all plentiful and easy to navigate.

The relaxation area in the spa at 45 Park Lane complete with fire place, cream lounge chairs, nature images on the walls, water, tea and fresh fruit on hand became my refuge. -After a day navigating the chaos that can be London, it was absolutely beautiful to reflect and even meditate here.

Bathrooms within the spa at 45 Park Lane have GHD hair products, straighteners and hair dryers for guests to use, and the showers are spectacular with towering ceilings, grey stone and blue gold tap ware.

This access is a key draw for celebrities and elite guests who frequent the exclusive wellness spaces, providing a sanctuary away from the city’s hustle – and it can only be accessed by gets of either The Dorchester or 45 Park Lane or for owners of the apartments at 45 Park Lane.

Food and Beverage: 10/10

The Dorchester London boasts some of London’s most prestigious dining venues, including the legendary Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, a three-Michelin-starred modern French restaurant that stands as a culinary institution in London.

China Tang offers a striking 1930s Shanghai-inspired ambiance with authentic Cantonese dishes. The Grill provides a refreshed take on British cuisine in a refined yet relaxed atmosphere.

The Promenade offers all-day dining with sumptuous breakfast, afternoon tea, and elegant dinner options, set amid bombastic but beautiful floral displays and artful decor.

Breakfast is also offered to hotel guests within the Grill restaurant, hotel guests can choose. It was our preference to dine at The Grill as an extensive buffet is included as well as a la carte, and we found a waiter there who was so warm and kind we wanted to see her every day we were there.

Breakfast is fabulous at The Dorchester, and we made it into a long, slow way to start each day. I was so pleased to see so many delicious but healthy options on offer including blackberry and pistachio overnight oats with chia seeds, pomegranate, raspberry & grapefruit antioxidant bowl and avocado & heritage tomato dukkah bowl.

On the a la carte menu, Portland crab Benedict with avocado and hollandaise sauce and Welsh rarebit crumpet with trace cured bacon and egg was decadent, and my favourite was the duck egg with wild mushrooms on sourdough.

The newly refined Vesper Bar delivers exquisite cocktails, such as the signature Vesper martini, in a sleek, velvet-draped setting—perfect for celebrity sightings and sophisticated nights out.

Bars and Nightlife: 9/10

The Vesper Bar, named after James Bond’s iconic love interest, has been fully transformed into a luxurious speakeasy-style venue, ideal for late-night tipples amid glamorous surroundings.

It feels more like a super exclusive private club with Ruinart Champagne by the glass and flawless cocktails on offer.

Nearby, the Artists’ Bar showcases mirrored accents, crystal chandeliers, and a collection of British art, creating an opulent space for champagne, caviar, and fine seafood.

Staying at The Dorchester feels like you have anything and everything you feel like within the one hotel from a quite night in with sone of the world’s best room service to a lengthy and insightful conversation with one of the butlers in the lobby, fine dine in a choice off top level restaurants, to a party at The Vesper Bar and tea and cake in The Promenade.

The Dorchester’s long legacy entwines with the glamour of London society and royal patronage. The hotel’s rich historical tapestry is carefully preserved even as it embraces 21st-century luxury, demonstrated by the careful conservation of the iconic Oliver Messel Terrace Suite and public areas.

The Highlight: We stayed over Christmas and woke up one morning to a total transformation of the hotel into Christmas – magical.

The lowlight: We didn’t rate the cakes within the Promenade inside the hotel. They weren’t up to the standard of everything else in the hotel we experienced.

Most Instagrammable location at The Dorchester: Too many to mention as even the rooms are photogenic, but The Promenade with its striking artwork, billowing flower arrangements and stunning interiors is a knockout.
