Parilio Paros Review: Inside One of the Greek Islands’ Most Stylish Boutique Hotels

Pinterest LinkedIn

Hidden among the sun-bleached landscapes of Paros, Parilio combines Cycladic design, understated luxury and a slower, more private style of Greek island escape.

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

There was a time when conversations about luxury in the Cyclades began and ended with Mykonos and Santorini. One offered glamorous beach clubs and celebrity spotting, the other dramatic sunsets and whitewashed villages clinging impossibly to volcanic cliffs. Yet as discerning travellers increasingly seek authenticity over excess, another island has quietly emerged as one of the Mediterranean’s most compelling destinations.

Paros has become the Greek island of choice for understated luxury. Here, traditional villages continue to revolve around local life rather than cruise ship schedules, family-owned tavernas outnumber international restaurant chains, and beaches remain gloriously unpretentious. Luxury exists, but it whispers rather than shouts. No hotel encapsulates this philosophy better than Parilio.

Owned by Empiria Group, one of Greece’s most respected family-owned luxury hospitality companies, Parilio represents a thoughtful evolution of Cycladic luxury. Founded by Kalia Konstantinidou and Antonis Eliopoulos, Empiria has built its reputation on creating hotels that celebrate a profound sense of place rather than imposing international luxury formulas upon them.

Their collection—including Parīlio, Cosme and Vedema in Santorini—shares a common philosophy: contemporary elegance inspired by Greek heritage, exceptional gastronomy, intuitive service and an atmosphere that encourages guests to slow down rather than constantly seek stimulation.

That philosophy is immediately evident on arrival.

Tucked away just minutes from the picturesque harbour town of Naoussa, Parilio feels wonderfully secluded. There are no grand entrances or theatrical arrival sequences. Instead, guests are welcomed into a series of low-rise Cycladic buildings constructed from soft limestone and earthy materials that appear almost sculpted into the surrounding landscape. Olive trees sway gently in the breeze, the scent of wild herbs drifts through the warm air and conversations are softened by one of the most tranquil pool settings anywhere in the Greek islands.

It is impossible not to exhale. This is a hotel that understands luxury is increasingly measured not by excess but by serenity.

The extraordinary cross-shaped swimming pool forms the visual centrepiece of the property, winding organically between enormous natural rock formations that appear as though they have existed here for centuries. Wide daybeds, oversized umbrellas and beautifully landscaped gardens create countless secluded corners where guests can spend an afternoon reading, swimming or simply doing very little at all. Unlike many luxury resorts that feel compelled to fill every moment with activity, Parilio embraces stillness. It is one of the most peaceful hotels I have experienced in Greece.

Arrival & First Impressions – 9.5/10

Parilio immediately establishes a sense of calm that defines the remainder of the stay. Check-in is warm, personal and refreshingly unhurried, with the team taking genuine pride in introducing guests to both the hotel and the island itself. Rather than overwhelming visitors with information, conversations feel natural and thoughtful, immediately setting the tone for a stay built around relaxation.

The design language is exceptionally cohesive. Soft neutral tones, natural stone, textured plaster walls and handcrafted furnishings create interiors that are unmistakably contemporary while remaining deeply connected to traditional Cycladic architecture. Every detail appears intentional, from the carefully selected ceramics to the understated landscaping that frames each pathway.

Unlike some boutique hotels that prioritise style over substance, Parilio succeeds in delivering both.

Rooms & Suites – 8.8/10

The accommodation reflects the same restrained elegance found throughout the property. Rather than relying on lavish decoration, the suites celebrate space, texture and natural light. Creams, soft greys and warm timber create an atmosphere that feels sophisticated without becoming sterile, while oversized beds dressed in luxurious linen immediately invite long mornings and leisurely afternoons.

Bathrooms are generous, featuring expansive walk-in showers, premium amenities and a minimalist aesthetic that perfectly complements the overall design philosophy. The emphasis is firmly on quality materials rather than unnecessary embellishment.

Many suites also feature private outdoor terraces where guests can enjoy breakfast in complete privacy or simply unwind after a day exploring the island. The hotel’s villa accommodation takes this concept a step further, offering expansive living spaces and private pools that make them particularly appealing for families or groups of friends seeking both privacy and the services of a luxury hotel.

Housekeeping is consistently excellent, with thoughtful evening turndown service reinforcing the property’s meticulous attention to detail.

The only minor criticism is that, while undeniably beautiful, some entry-level suites prioritise design and tranquillity over expansive living space. Guests seeking the ultimate residential experience may wish to upgrade to one of the larger suites or villas, where the additional indoor and outdoor space transforms an already excellent stay into something truly exceptional.

Food – 9.4/10

Dining at Parilio is centred around Mr. E, a restaurant that has quietly established itself as one of the island’s finest culinary experiences. Rather than relying on theatrical presentation or fleeting gastronomic trends, the kitchen focuses on contemporary Greek and Mediterranean cuisine that celebrates exceptional seasonal produce, much of it sourced from local farmers and fishermen.

There is an unmistakable emphasis on clean, vibrant flavours. Fresh herbs appear throughout the menu, vegetables are treated with the same respect as premium proteins and dishes feel elegant without becoming overly complicated. During my stay, standouts included beautifully prepared lamb fricassée, perfectly cooked chicken finished with a delicate hazelnut crust and vibrant beetroot salads that demonstrated just how exciting simple ingredients can become in talented hands.

The atmosphere contributes enormously to the experience. Tables overlook the hotel’s sculptural pool, the lighting becomes increasingly atmospheric as evening falls and the pace of service encourages diners to linger. It is sophisticated without ever feeling formal, reflecting the relaxed confidence that defines the entire hotel.

The wine programme deserves particular recognition. Greece is producing some of Europe’s most exciting wines, yet many international travellers remain unfamiliar with the country’s remarkable vineyards. The sommelier confidently introduces guests to outstanding labels from Paros, Santorini and mainland Greece, creating an experience that feels both educational and immensely enjoyable.

Cocktail Programme – 9.8/10

The cocktail programme is among the most memorable I have encountered in Greece.

While many luxury hotels continue to rely on predictable classics, Parilio has developed a menu that places fresh ingredients and balance ahead of unnecessary complexity. Fresh raspberries, cucumber, herbs and seasonal fruits replace artificial syrups wherever possible, while agave is frequently used in place of refined sugar, creating cocktails that feel noticeably lighter and cleaner.

The result is a collection of drinks that are vibrant, beautifully balanced and refreshingly free from the cloying sweetness that often dominates resort cocktail lists. Sitting beside the pool with one of these creations as the afternoon light softens over the Cycladic landscape quickly becomes one of the defining rituals of a stay here.

Breakfast – 9.3/10

Breakfast is served in an elegant open-air dining space that perfectly captures the relaxed rhythm of island life. The setting alone encourages guests to slow down, while the quality of the offering rewards those who do.

The buffet combines beautifully presented pastries, seasonal fruits, local cheeses, freshly baked breads and Greek yoghurt with honey, alongside an excellent à la carte selection of hot dishes prepared to order. Everything feels fresh, generous and thoughtfully curated rather than excessive.

Like the rest of the culinary programme, the emphasis is on quality ingredients rather than overwhelming quantity, making breakfast one of the most enjoyable meals of the day.

Wellness & Spa – 8.9/10

Parilio’s wellness offering mirrors the philosophy of the hotel itself: understated, calming and deeply restorative.

The spa is intimate rather than expansive, making it feel more like a private retreat than a commercial wellness centre. Signature treatments draw inspiration from Greek healing traditions and natural ingredients, while the impressive three-metre jacuzzi provides a genuine highlight after a morning exploring Paros.

Guests also have access to a well-equipped fitness space, although the greatest luxury here is perhaps the opportunity to disconnect completely. Whether spending an afternoon beside the pool, enjoying a massage or simply reading beneath the shade of an olive tree, the hotel creates an environment that encourages genuine rest.

Service – 9.5/10

Exceptional service often defines the world’s finest boutique hotels, and Parilio is no exception.

General Manager George leads with quiet confidence, bringing experience gained at some of Europe’s most prestigious luxury properties, including London’s acclaimed Zuma. His presence is felt throughout the hotel, not through formality but through genuine warmth and attention to detail.

The wider team consistently strikes the delicate balance between professionalism and friendliness. Requests are handled efficiently, recommendations are thoughtful and interactions feel authentic rather than rehearsed. Guests are recognised, conversations remembered and assistance offered naturally without becoming intrusive.

It is this intuitive style of hospitality that elevates the experience beyond beautiful architecture and excellent food.

Location – 8/10

Parilio occupies a peaceful setting just a short drive from Naoussa, one of the island’s most charming harbour towns.

The hotel’s complimentary shuttle service makes moving between the property and town effortless, allowing guests to enjoy Naoussa’s boutique shopping, waterfront restaurants and lively evening atmosphere without the need to hire a car for every outing.

Some travellers may prefer to remain directly on the waterfront, but Parilio’s slightly removed location is precisely what allows it to deliver such an extraordinary sense of tranquillity. It feels wonderfully secluded while remaining close to everything that makes northern Paros so appealing.

Style & Design – 9.8/10

This is where Parilio truly distinguishes itself.

Every aspect of the property has been designed with remarkable restraint and sophistication. The architecture draws heavily on traditional Cycladic forms while introducing contemporary materials and sculptural elements that feel timeless rather than fashionable.

The extraordinary pool, framed by dramatic natural rock formations, is among the most striking hotel pools in Greece. Soft limestone walls, handcrafted furnishings, earthy textures and muted tones create a visual identity that is instantly recognisable yet never overwhelming.

Unlike many luxury hotels that compete for attention through spectacle, Parilio demonstrates that confidence often lies in simplicity. The result is one of the most elegant boutique hotels in the Cyclades.

Best culinary delight: The freshly made cocktails.

The Highlight: Parilio succeeds because it understands that modern luxury is no longer defined by excess.
