Everyday Luxury Jakarta: Hotels and Restaurants

Pinterest LinkedIn

When it comes to everyday luxury restaurants and stays, most people don’t know it exists in Jakarta.

But in terms of hotels, bars and restaurants, there are plenty of upscale options.

There are restaurants, hotels and bars in Jakarta that are as luxurious and fun as you can get, you just need to know where they are.

Modernhaus Jakarta

Modernhaus, Jakarta

Food Rating: 8.5/10

Drinks: 9.5/10

Interiors: 9/10

Instagram Opps: 9/10

Best For: Sophisticated cocktails, design lovers and Jakarta’s stylish late-night crowd

Modernhaus has rapidly become one of Jakarta’s most fashionable nightlife destinations thanks to its striking mid-century inspired interiors, highly creative botanical cocktails and intimate social energy.

Located above Bouchon in Senopati, the bar feels warm, polished and effortlessly cosmopolitan, with curved seating, ambient lighting and skyline glimpses creating an atmosphere more akin to an ultra-stylish private apartment than a traditional cocktail venue.

The drinks menu is among the most inventive in the city, incorporating Indonesian herbs, flowers and produce into refined cocktails that are both artistic and highly drinkable. Combined with excellent music, beautifully presented bar food and sophisticated service, Modernhaus delivers one of the most elevated late-night experiences in Jakarta.

What truly sets Modernhaus apart, however, is the extraordinary international recognition it has achieved in an incredibly short period of time. The bar debuted at No.12 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2025, making it not only the highest-ranked bar in Indonesia but also one of the most significant new entries across Asia’s luxury cocktail scene. It also received the prestigious Three Cents Best New Opening Award 2025 and was named Best Bar in Indonesia.

The accolades extend beyond Asia’s 50 Best Bars. Modernhaus has also been recognised as one of the Top 10 Best New International Cocktail Bars by the APAC Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards 2025, further cementing Jakarta’s growing reputation as a serious global cocktail destination.

Meanwhile, publications including Tatler Asia and luxury hospitality platforms have praised the venue for its “ingredients-first philosophy”, botanical storytelling and emotionally intelligent hospitality.

The Orient Jakarta

Stay: The Orient Jakarta

Food Rating: 8.5/10

And maybeDrinks: 8.5/10

Interiors: 9.5/10

Instagram Opps: 9.5/10

Best For: Design lovers, rooftop sunsets and travellers wanting one of Jakarta’s most visually striking luxury hotels can you get

The Orient Jakarta a Royal Hideaway Hotel is unlike almost any other hotel in the city. Designed by legendary architect and hotel visionary Bill Bensley, the property feels theatrical, eccentric and deeply layered with Indonesian storytelling.

Rather than minimalist contemporary luxury, the hotel embraces maximalism — rich textures, antique-inspired details, vintage artefacts, dramatic colours and bold architectural moments all combine to create a property that feels immersive from the moment guests arrive.

Every corridor, lounge, elevator and guest room feels intentionally cinematic and highly photogenic, making it one of Jakarta’s strongest luxury hotel choices for travellers who value design and atmosphere as much as traditional five-star comfort. There are travellers who rate these rooms as the most creative and therefore enjoyable in Jakarta.

The dining and social scene are central to the hotel’s appeal. The rooftop venue, Café Cali, has become one of Jakarta’s most popular sunset destinations thanks to its panoramic skyline views, rooftop pool and glamorous day-to-night energy.

Meanwhile, the hotel’s Spanish restaurant Caspar (which closes from time to time)and Japanese dining venue Furusato Izakaya add depth to the culinary offering, giving the property a far more lifestyle-driven atmosphere than many traditional business hotels in Jakarta. Cocktails are polished, the rooftop setting is spectacular and the overall energy throughout the hotel feels youthful, creative and international. The rooftop pool itself is a standout feature, with sunken lounges, dramatic city views and a distinctly resort-like atmosphere high above Jakarta’s endless urban sprawl.

What ultimately makes The Orient Jakarta so compelling is that it feels genuinely original. In a luxury hotel market often dominated by polished international sameness, this property embraces personality, creativity and a strong sense of place.

Bill Bensley’s signature style is visible throughout the hotel — layered storytelling, dramatic visual contrasts and an ability to make a hotel feel emotionally transportive rather than simply luxurious.

The property has rapidly developed a loyal following among design-conscious travellers, creatives, luxury staycation guests and social media audiences drawn to its highly visual aesthetic. It is not simply somewhere to sleep; it is an experience in itself.

Lentrecote by Bouchon

Eat: L’Entrecôte by Bouchon

Food Rating: 8.5/10

Drinks: 8/10

Interiors: 8.5/10

Instagram Opps: 8/10

Best For: Stylish French comfort food, long lunches and relaxed dinners with friends

L’Entrecôte by Bouchon has quickly become one of Jakarta’s most popular French dining destinations, bringing a warm Parisian bistro energy to the heart of Senopati. Created by The Union Group, the restaurant leans into classic French comfort food rather than intimidating fine dining, and that is exactly what makes it work so well.

The interiors feel intimate and romantic, layered with vintage-inspired details, warm lighting, dark woods and tightly packed tables that create the feeling of an authentic Left Bank bistro. There is a lively energy to the room, particularly at night, when Jakarta’s fashion, creative and hospitality crowd settle in for cocktails, steak frites and long conversations.

The menu focuses heavily on classic French favourites executed with polish and generosity. The signature steak frites with its rich secret sauce and unlimited fries has become one of the most talked-about dishes in the city, while the rotisserie chicken, duck confit, onion soup and foie gras pasta continue to attract loyal regulars.

Unlike more conceptual or experimental restaurants, Bouchon succeeds because it delivers exactly what diners want: deeply satisfying food in a stylish, social atmosphere. Cocktails are strong, classic and well-balanced, while the wine list complements the French bistro positioning without becoming inaccessible.

Although Bouchon is not positioned as an awards-driven fine dining venue like some of Jakarta’s more ambitious tasting-menu restaurants, it has become one of the city’s most successful modern brasserie concepts and a major part of Senopati’s evolving dining culture.

The venue is regularly praised across Jakarta’s luxury dining scene for its atmosphere, consistency and ability to create the kind of relaxed European dining experience that works equally well for business lunches, date nights or late dinners before cocktails upstairs at Modernhaus. Rather than chasing Michelin theatrics, Bouchon understands something arguably more important: people return because it is genuinely enjoyable.

Gran Melia Jakarta

Stay: Gran Meliá Jakarta

Food Rating: 8.5/10

Drinks: 8/10

Interiors: 8.5/10

Instagram Opps: 8/10

Best For: Classic five-star luxury, outstanding dim sum and international business travellers

Gran Meliá Jakarta remains one of Jakarta’s most established luxury hotels, combining old-school five-star grandeur with warm Spanish hospitality in the heart of the city’s diplomatic and business district. Unlike many of Jakarta’s newer design-led lifestyle hotels, Gran Meliá leans into timeless luxury — soaring marble atriums, polished interiors and expansive public spaces that create an immediate sense of occasion upon arrival. The atmosphere feels calm, refined and highly international, which is one of the reasons the hotel has long been a first choice for foreign travellers, diplomats and international business executives visiting Jakarta. It delivers the kind of reliable luxury and professionalism many overseas guests seek when navigating one of Asia’s busiest megacities.

The hotel’s culinary offering is a major highlight, particularly its dim sum, which is widely regarded as some of the best in Jakarta. Tien Chao, the hotel’s longstanding Chinese restaurant, has built a loyal following for beautifully crafted dumplings, delicate har gow, premium seafood dishes and refined Cantonese classics served in an elegant setting.

Weekend yum cha here remains especially popular among Jakarta’s affluent local families and expatriate community. Meanwhile, restaurants including Yoshi Izakaya continue to reinforce the hotel’s strong reputation for quality Asian dining. The breakfast experience is also extensive and highly polished, catering exceptionally well to international travellers with broad global tastes.

What ultimately sets Gran Meliá Jakarta apart is its consistency. While many newer luxury hotels in Jakarta compete heavily on trends and social media appeal, Gran Meliá succeeds through service, comfort and trusted reputation. Operated by Meliá Hotels International, the hotel continues to attract returning international guests who value spacious rooms, attentive hospitality, strong dining and a sense of familiarity in the middle of Jakarta’s fast-moving energy. It may not be the city’s trendiest hotel, but it remains one of its most dependable luxury addresses. Just working fucking working

This unique, elegant, feminine restaurant is unexpected. Located in the lobby of the somewhat dated Ayana Hotel, it is the highlight of the hotel.

It is filled with flowers, flower canapés and colour, and international chefs create the menu and cuisine, whose passion is obvious.

The menu comes designed as a magazine, and includes a huge range of western delights including fresh fish of the day, meats, soups, smoothies and desserts but everything is relatively healthy and always changing, so that daily, fresh specials and new menu items are always there.
