Luxury Jakarta: Hotels and Restaurants

When it comes to luxury travel, most people don’t know it exists in Jakarta.

But in terms of hotels, bars and restaurants, there are plenty of upscale options.

There are restaurants, hotels and bars in Jakarta that are as luxurious and fun as you can get, you just need to know where they are.

Bar and Restaurant, Hakkasan

Hakkasan Jakarta is one of the city’s hottest luxury dining and drinking spots.

Food Rating: 9/10

Drinks: 9/10

Interiors: 10/10

Instagram opps: 10/10

Best for: After work rooftop drinks or a romantic dinner. And some of the best interiors and exteriors for Instagram images.

This London Restaurant Group needs no introduction in terms of exquisite dining experiences, but the rooftop which opened month ago in Jakarta is already one of Jakarta’s best – and most popular.

Think expertly mixed cocktails, gourmet Asian snacks in generous sizes, and the sexy, cool crowd of Jakarta. The rooftop is extraordinary and divided into different sections with bars, a (real) frangipani tree, couches, three different bar sections to sit at, live DJ’s, and wooden decking.

It’s hard to believe this oasis of fun and calm is located right in the middle of such a bustling, urban city.

The restaurant is located one floor down from the bar in the financial district. It has 360 degree views of Jakarta’s skyscrapers and beautiful leather seating, and sumptuous, flashy interiors in tones of gold, blue, ad even orange.

The classic Hakkasan favourites are all on the menu including their designer cocktails, hand-made dumplings, and roasted duck pancakes. Prices are about half of London, but it is one of Jakarta’s most expensive spots to dine.

Stay: Four Seasons, Jakarta

The Four Seasons Jakarta is luxury accommodation at its best and was last renovated three years ago so is still fresh.

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

Best For: Sitting by the pool, a luxe stay or a glamorous lunch.

This luxury hotel group also needs no background or introduction for the luxury traveller, and the Jakarta property does not disappoint.

The interiors are cream, and luxurious with splashes of silver and the odd colour highlight. The lobby and breakfast room feature towering ceilings, superbly designed soft lighting, soft furnishings and modern, clean lines.

Lots of Instagram opportunities here.

Rooms all have balconies and are spacious and well proportioned. They were upgraded in 2017, and still feel fresh.

Bar and Restaurant: Skye Bar

Skye Bar Jakarta is one of the city’s most upmarket bars with views, cocktails and a great vibe.

Food Rating: 8/10

Drinks: 8.5/10

Interiors: 8.5/10

Instagram opps: 8.5/10

Best For: The late-night party vibe

Skye Bar is loved by everyone who has ever visited Jakarta for its huge selection of well-mixed cocktails, amazing DJ’s, expansive water features, warm, welcoming vibe, and stunning city views.

There’s a long ride up to the top in a lift and it opens to a rooftop filled with palm trees, bars, waiters and some of Jakarta’s most beautiful people.

The cocktails are creative and include white and milk chocolate options, martinis of every flavour imaginable, as well as plenty of the regular choices you would expect to see.

Stay: Alila SCBD Hotel

The amazing Vong Restaurant at the new upscale Alila Hotel in Jakarta, which houses one of the city’s best fitness centres.

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

Best For: Amazing pool, fitness centre, an easy stay and overall fantastic location.

This Alila property is new to Jakarta, but the group is fast earning a great reputation in Bali where their 3 hotels there are modern, fresh and open to natural light and the environment.

Alila Jakarta is a distinctly city hotel, but with two fabulous open-air pools surrounded by large trees, bringing in the tranquil Alila vibe. There are also gym and fitness facilities which include single-sex dry and wet saunas.

The restaurant, Vong Kitchen just off the lobby serves fabulous modern, fresh mostly Western food, as well as some local favourites, and there’s a great bar area with excellent cocktails and wines by the glass.

Rooms are simple, clean and modern, with city views. The location here is outstanding as the hotel is tucked right in the middle of the business district with plenty of amazing shopping. Traffic in Jakarta can be hectic, but from here, everything is accessible.

The Alila hotel also offer a range of private tours, including a shopping tour which are all excellent, as Jakarta is hard to navigate for the new tourist, so taking a tour in a luxury air-conditioned car with excellent English speakers is worthwhile.

Bar and Restaurant: Sofia’s

Sofias in Jakarta is a fabulous upscale European style bar with live music, great drinks and good food.

Food Rating: 7.5/10

Drinks: 7/10 (excellent cocktails but not enough wines by the glass)

Interiors: 9/10

Instagram opps: 8.5/10

Best For: Live Music and a distinctly European vibe -and for smoking inside if that’s your thing.

This sultry bar and restaurant has classically European Italian/French style furniture, a large menu of both western and European food, and amazing live musicians a few nights of the week. There are also excellent drinks specials including all you can drink wine and gin on different nights of the week.

You can settle in here for a drink or a whole night of great food and wine. The feel after about 6pm is global, relaxed and elegant. Great vibe and always busy.

Restaurant: Blu Terrace Restaurant, Ayana Hotel

Blu Terrace Restaurant in Jakarta has an exceptionally healthy but delicious menu of mostly western food.

Food Rating: 9.5/10

Drinks: 8.5/10

Interiors: 7.5/10

Instagram opps: 7.5/10

Best For: Sensational, healthy lunches and gorgeous Instagram photos

This unique, elegant, feminine restaurant is unexpected. Located in the lobby of the somewhat dated Ayana Hotel, it is the highlight of the hotel.

It is filled with flowers, flower canapés and colour, and international chefs create the menu and cuisine, whose passion is obvious.

The menu comes designed as a magazine, and includes a huge range of western delights including fresh fish of the day, meats, soups, smoothies and desserts but everything is relatively healthy and always changing, so that daily, fresh specials and new menu items are always there.

Bar: Bart at Artotel

Drinks: 7.5/10

Interiors: 7.5/10

Instagram opps: 7.5/10

This was one of the first classic rooftops in Jakarta, and it is still popular with locals and tourists.

The black and white interiors, open-air sections, large open windows and sold tunes make it a great after-work venue.

The furniture is regularly upgraded to look smart, the cocktails are good and the views are stunning.

Barts rooftop bar in Jakarta has been around longer than most is one of the city’s trendiest places to be seen.
