It has branded itself as a luxury, locally minded hotel which sums up many features of this property which you don’t see in more traditional hotels.

These include unpretentious service, affordable food and drinks, an open door policy for pets to stay free, WFH options within and outside the rooms, a free social hour (free drinks and snacks) for in-house guests, options to rent rooms by the day or even half day and instagrammable locations all over the property.

This Kimpton hotel is a millennials dream, but it is also brilliant for anyone looking for modern luxury, a great buzz, fantastic cocktails, easy WFH options, to embrace nature in the heart of a bustling Asian city, or hotel guests looking to fill up their instagram with a luxury stay.

The Location: The Kimpton Maa-Lai hotel is located in Phloen Chit, an upmarket area of Bangkok full of five star hotels and apartments. The best part about the location is that the hotel sits in the middle of a huge garden where guests can have a cocktail, a meal or work from home with or without their pet.

Style & Vibe: 10/10
This hotel is bustling and snappy. It showcases the best of Kimpton, as it is the Kimpton’s flagship property in South Easy Asia. When guests arrive, the lobby is full of people, there is a gelato trolley on hand, a snazzy cocktail bar and live music on weekends. Food specials from fresh oysters to seasonal specials abound and change weekly.

The lobby and restaurants feature grand local artworks, and the entire lobby itself feels ratter like a huge lounge room, with affordable prices for both food and drink which means there are always a lot of people around – often with pets dressed to the nines sitting in prams- creating a perennial buzz.

Rooms: 10/10
Rooms are designed to capture the surrounding skyscraper views, including of the Dutch Embassy gardens and Lumphini Park and designed in simple muted tones of cream, and grey. The bathrooms are show stoppers – packed with white marble, natural light, huge baths overlooking the view and a separate, spacious rain shower.
Other standard room amenities include designer Japanese style bathrobes, an espresso machine, designer mini-bar snacks, and bluetooth speakers.

Service: 9/10
The service at Kimpton Maa-Lai is unpretentious and warm, and nothing is too much trouble. There are a lot of staff in every venue, and they aim to please. They also don’t mind having a chat and a lot speak excellent English.

Facilities: 9.5/10
The gym at The Kimpton Maa-Lai is packed with the latest in gym equipment, energetic enthusiastic staff and classes 3 mornings a week for in-house guests. There are floor to ceiling downs creating beautiful natural light, perfect for instagram snaps.
The infinity pool has jaw dropping views of the surrounding buildings, and is again an instagrammer’s dream. The spa is streamlined in style, and a welcome place to relax with an exceptional Thai massage using Hahn products. Dyson hairdryers top off the luxe experience.

Bars & Restaurants: 9/10
The food and beverage outlets at Kimpton Maa-Lai are a highlight of the hotel on every level. Breakfast is a theatrical performance with more food choices and offerings than you could ever imagine from Asian to Indian, western , vegan and more.
Taking inspiration from a backyard BBQ, the rooftop restaurant Bar Yard, has one of Bangkok’s best sweeping city views on the 40th floor, and elevated, creative botanical cocktails and food to match.

Best culinary delight: The Italian breakfast section with fresh parmesan, and Italian meats. Absolutely delicious with freshly squeezed juices.

Best drink: The gin bar at Craft in the lobby stocks a huge selection of gins from every part of the world. You are guaranteed to find something here you have not tried before.
The highlight: The rooms are so spacious and well designed, you don’t want to go out. The massive garden is another fantastic feature.
The lowlight: I did not find one.
