An insiders review of the New COMO Metropolitan Hotel in Singapore. Luxury, Style, and Exceptional Service

Discovering the COMO Metropolitan Singapore was an extraordinary experience, blending modernity, understated luxury, innovative amenities, one of the world’s greatest coffee shops and pastries, and top-tier wellness facilities.

Nestled in the heart of Orchard Road, this 156-key hotel represents a significant milestone for the Singapore-founded COMO Group, as it is their first property in Singapore itself, showcasing their commitment to wellness, elegance and modernity.

The Como group is an award-winning, family-owned group of twenty luxury hotels and resorts, in Bali, Italy, Bangkok and more, with a commitment to holistic wellness, nutritional cuisine, and inspiring destinations.

From its impeccable design and extraordinary wellness facilities to the innovative amenities like a robot barista and the gourmet dining options, COMO Metropolitan Singapore offers an unparalleled urban oasis, and takes the definition of a modern luxury stay to a new level. It is more compact and modern than its sister properties, but it is still an oasis of calm and serenity within the urban environment.

The food and beverage set up is one of Singapore’s best and includes lauded pastry chef Cedric Groulet’s striking coffee shop/pastry restaurant, a jungle themed bar fronting COTE, the first overseas outpost of the one-Michelin-starred Korean steakhouse from the US, complete with a ruby red lit dry aged meat fridge and Como Cuisine Restaurant famed for healthy, clean delicious food.

Managed by the stylish General Manager Ruby Garcia (podcast below), the hotel seamlessly blends luxury, comfort, and sustainability, ensuring an enriching and memorable stay.

Even the shopping offering is world class. A curated collection of fabulous global brands is available at Club 21 including Self Portrait and more, all within the hotel in a shop next to Cedric Groulet which provides an attractive array of souvenirs.

This is genuinely a luxury five star hotel guests can indulge in as a sanctuary and not leave. From health and wellness to exceptional food and rinks – healthy or indulgent- Como Metropolitan Singapore has a huge offering for every guest. And instagram opportunities are endless.

The Living Room in the Metropolitan suite at Como Metropolitan Singapore

Rooms: 9/10

Rooms at COMO Metropolitan Singapore are a sanctuary of modern living and calm, featuring a lot of natural light, neutral furnishings and natural materials. I stayed in a massive corner suite complete with a kitchen and lounge room, a separate bedroom and bathroom, and a second toilet. This would have been brilliant if I was travelling with my family.

Designed by an international team of renowned architects and interior designers, each room exudes contemporary elegance.

The high-end Italian furniture by Giorgetti adds a touch of sophistication, creating a perfect blend of comfort and style. Light-filled and meticulously appointed, the accommodations are both welcoming and luxurious.

There were two Bose speakers which I enjoyed throughout my stay, as well as some complimentary drinks and snacks in the kitchen and the kitchen was kitted out with wine glasses, plates and so on so a home coked meal was very possible. I enjoyed room service breakfast in the room which was excellent.

Style: 10/10

The hotel’s design is a masterclass in understated luxury. The neutral palette and natural materials create a serene vibe in every area that is both modern and timeless.

The moving digital art wall in the hotel’s lobby has to be seen to be believed. It is a visual feast for the eyes as a mammoth floral art work slowly shifts and moves to eventually dissolve into another every 4 or so minutes.

The pale blue Como Shambala spa is a haven of architectural calm, whilst Korean Restaurant Cote is deeply mysterious in style with a leafy jungle feel and splashes of fiery red including the dry aged meat fridge which is creatively lit with a red light.

The Reception at Como Metropolitan Singapore

Cedric Groulet’s exceptional restaurant with silver light fittings flying out of the ceiling, pastries housed in glass domes all over the venue and a silver colour theme transport diners to another world.

Paola Navone’s architectural vision, combined with the interior design expertise of Koichiro Ikebuchi and Preeti Sriratana, results in a cosmopolitan stylishness that sets COMO Metropolitan apart as one of Singapore’s most modern hotels.

The rooftop pool and bar is a stylish design highlight with striking views of Singapore’s skyline.

Location: 9/10

Situated on Orchard Road, COMO Metropolitan Singapore is at the epicenter of Singapore’s premier shopping and dining district. Singapore is hot, and being so close, walking distance to everything is a huge bonus.

The location is perfect for both leisure and business travelers, offering easy access to a plethora of high-end boutiques, malls, other five star luxury hotels and eateries.

A scenic and short ride from Changi Airport brings you straight to this urban oasis, making it a convenient and luxurious base for exploring the city.

Food And Beverage: 10/10

In a city packed with sensational restaurants and bars, the food and beverage offering is absolutely world class.

A first for Asia, the Cédric Grolet patisserie at COMO Metropolitan Singapore brings the award-winning French pastry chef’s exquisite creations to Singapore. I have been fortunate to dine on his offerings at Le Meuriuce, a Dorchester Collection Hotel in the heart of Paris, (see my review here) where his talents were first showcased to the world.

The Cedric Groulet restaurant and cafe is a a pastry lover’s paradise and visual and gastronomic feast, offering a range of pastries, sandwiches, and an exclusive tea menu. The cake menu changes regularly and everything is extraordinary.

Grolet’s hyper-realistic fruit and flower creations are as much a treat for the eyes and instagram as they are for the palate.

While the queues can be long, the experience is well worth it, especially for signature items like the flaky croissants (one of which is included at breakfast for every in-house guest) that have become a global tik tok and Instagram sensation.

Como Cuisine at Como Metropole Singapore

At COMO Cuisine, you’re invited to embark on a global culinary journey through the celebrated dishes of COMO Hotels and Resorts worldwide. My only disappointment is the former Como restaurant at Dempsey Hill has gone to make way for the hotel, it was one of my favourites.

The menu here is a delightful fusion of international flavours and local Singaporean specialties, showcasing a deep respect for authentic recipes and traditional cooking techniques.

From the spice-rich soul warming laksa to fresh salads, every dish is crafted to inspire and delight the palate – without the calories or unhealthy additives. Every food issue is easily considered.

The restaurant’s ambiance, designed by acclaimed Italian architect Paola Navone, is understated, and a touch cold, with a long bar that serves a full suite of cocktails inspired by COMO properties around the world.

Cocktails at Como Metropolitan Singapore

Cote Korean Steakhouse is the first overseas outpost of the one-Michelin-starred steakhouse from the US, and offers a dining experience like no other in Singapore.

Combining the essence of a traditional Korean barbecue with the sophistication of an upmarket American chophouse, Cote delivers a meaty tour de force with exceptional quality premium cuts like USDA Prime Black Angus and Miyazaki A5 Wagyu.

The restaurant’s vibrant atmosphere, complete with a music room, noir-inspired cigar lounge with deep leather seats and city views, and a lush jungle-themed bar with cocktails and gorgeous and elegant as the barman, I loved this spot for both an indulgent night out, and a post dinner drink most nights.

The service is impeccable, with staff expertly explaining how to eat a Koran BBQ, grilling and serving each cut of meat, delivering vegetables, salads and wines allowing diners to fully enjoy the experience without worrying about the technicalities of cooking.

After a day of exploring or business meetings, the rooftop pool bar at COMO Hotel offers the perfect place to unwind before the sun goes down.

With a stunning view of the city skyline, the bar features an extensive array of premium liquors, handcrafted cocktails, and a curated selection of bites from COMO Cuisine.

Service: 8/10

Service at COMO Metropolitan Singapore is excellent.

The staff are attentive, professional, and ensured a memorable stay. The highlight for me was the service in the Koran restaurant Cote, as I had never eat Korean BBQ, so needed a lot of explanation as to what to eat with what and how to pair things up.

At Como Shambala it was the same. Staff have been recruited globally to ensure they have the very latest and most up to date information and techniques for the best health experiences possible.

And the concierge were excellent, making sure I had transport and could find what I needed.

From the seamless check-in process to the personalised touches throughout my visit, the level of hospitality is truly world-class.

Ice Baths are available at Como Metropolitan Singapore.

Wellness: 10/10

COMO Shambhala, the hotel’s wellness center, is a standout feature. Spanning 9,000 square feet, it is the group’s largest urban flagship wellness center.

Designed in mesmerising pale blue by Paola Navone, the center offers a comprehensive range of wellness experiences, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, pilates classes, infrared saunas, ice baths, and red light therapy.

The gym is world class with excellent weights and cardio equipment. There is significantly more on offer than a regular hotel gym, and the rooftop pool is ideal for laps in the early morning,

The serene design and state-of-the-art facilities provide a rejuvenating escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Style abounds at Como Metropolitan Singapore.

Sustainability: 8/10

Singapore is dedicated and focussed on sustainability. COMO Metropolitan Singapore demonstrates a commendable commitment to sustainability.

The use of natural materials in the design reflects an eco-conscious approach, while the hotel’s operational practices emphasise energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.

Although there is always room for improvement, the hotel’s efforts in sustainability are noteworthy and align with the growing demand for eco-friendly luxury travel options.
