Caption By Hyatt is a new affordable, approachable hotel group that makes staying in the heart of Sydney seamless and easy.
Caption by Hyatt has made a bold entrance into Sydney’s hotel scene, debuting its vibrant, community-focused brand at the crossroads of Haymarket and Chinatown. It’s not about luxury in the conventional sense, but the brand’s energy, location advantage, and sustainability credentials give it a real edge for modern travellers.
Designed to capture the soul of modern travel—tech-savvy, sustainable, and immersed in local culture—this property sets a fresh benchmark for affordable, lifestyle-led accommodation in the city’s heart.
Community is at its core with events on site including Sunday coffee parties, live artist performances and community events. During my stay. poetry event was held on site.
The fitness centre is a highlight as it is very spacious, fitted with the latest equipment, flooded with natural light and mirrors even has a cold tap available.
I stayed in a one bedroom suite which was huge with huge windows and views over the city, and I really made use of a fabulous couch and table setting at the end of the bed which allowed me to work, have a snack and even watch TV.

Breakfast is excellent as are cocktails of an evening, and the location in the middle of Chinatown means there is a vast amount of restaurants to eat at nearby serving some of the country’s best Asian dishes.
The theatres are a 2 minute walk away so it is also the perfect place to stay when seeing a show. Overall, such great value for money, and staying at Caption By Hyatt feels fresh and young.
General Manager Temara Exton leads Caption by Hyatt Sydney with a wealth of global experience, championing genuine connections and purposeful design. She’s steering the hotel toward being more than just accommodation—a social hub of creativity and community.

Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney delivers on its promises of urban vibrancy, tech convenience, and community engagement. The Brand and What’s Next

Rooms: 7/10
Rooms at Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney strike a distinctly urban, playful note. The contemporary fit-out is a mix of bright colors and industrial accents, courtesy of Melbourne’s Mitchell & Eades studio, which might divide guests: some appreciate the modernity and city views over Chinatown, while others may find the minimalism and small footprint less inviting.
Most rooms are compact, with bathrooms described by guests as “very small—think city micro-hotel.” While not overtly luxurious, essentials are solid: water pressure and air conditioning are reliable, beds comfortable, and Globalist breakfast at the in-house Talk Shop offers an easy start to the day. Accessibility options add plus points for inclusivity.

Location: 10/10
Hyatt chose its site with precision. Caption by Hyatt sits at 13 Parker Street—steps from Central Station, Chinatown markets, Darling Harbour, and the main theatre district—making it ideal for business and leisure travellers alike. Surry Hills is a few minutes away on foot too.
The area’s energy is palpable, and the hotel is a walk away from Sydney’s famed restaurants, sights, and cultural hotspots. Guests can soak up panoramic views of bustling Haymarket, and are instantly plugged into the city’s transport network.
Food & Drinks: 8/10
Talk Shop, Caption’s community-driven café/bar/workspace, is the social engine of the hotel. Its menu backs up the brand promise of local flavors and collaboration: breakfast ranges from classic avocado toast with merdieth feta and pancake stacks to shakshuka and steamed crab egg, complemented by quality coffee and fresh juice.
By day, it’s a functional space for working and sipping lattes; by night, it transforms, hosting music, comedy, and creative workshops in true urban style. Partnerships with local suppliers keep the offerings fresh and relevant.

Sustainability: 9/10
Hyatt has embedded sustainability into Caption’s DNA. The property’s eco-conscious operations include sourcing from local producers, efficient energy management, and a focus on minimising environmental impact at every stage. From refillable amenities to digitally enabled check-in and keyless access, Caption by Hyatt aligns with both convenience and sustainability.
Value for Money: 8/10
Starting rates hover around AUD$400 per night, and given the central location, newness, and tech features, this represents strong value in Sydney’s competitive market.
While the rooms aren’t large, what you gain is in location, design, and experience rather than traditional luxury extras. For urban explorers and digital nomads, the self-service aspects and “guest-led, host-supported” ethos create an accessible, seamless stay.
