Toby’s Estate has been named number one in a list of the world’s 100 Best Coffee Shops
Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters in Chippendale, Sydney, has claimed the #1 spot on the inaugural World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops list, marking a major global achievement for Australian coffee. This recognition places the café at the forefront of the world’s coffee culture, outshining countless competitors from across the globe.
The list, a new global benchmark for coffee excellence, evaluates cafés on criteria such as coffee quality, barista expertise, customer service, innovation, atmosphere, sustainability practices, and food quality. Toby’s Estate earned its top ranking after a combination of public votes and expert evaluations, with experts contributing 70% of the final score. The win is a testament to the café’s unwavering dedication to coffee craft and its exceptional customer experience.
Jody Leslie, General Manager of Toby’s Estate, shared her excitement about the accolade: “At Toby’s Estate, coffee is at the heart of everything we do, and I think that’s reflected in our customer’s experience. Our team’s hard work and passion have brought us to this incredible recognition, and we couldn’t be more thrilled.”
While Toby’s Estate’s triumph is a significant victory for Sydney’s coffee scene, it’s worth noting the broader Australian trend on the list.
Out of the top 100, only one other café from Sydney made the cut—leaving much of the spotlight on Melbourne, which is home to seven cafés on the list. Notable Melbourne establishments include Proud Mary Coffee (4th), Veneziano Coffee Roasters (19th), and Calere Coffee (28th), among others. Brisbane also saw strong representation with three cafés.
