Bobbi Brown says the best makeup looks start with healthy and glowing skin. She achieves this living in NYC by drinking none other than hot chocolate.
Makeup legend, Bobbi Brown, turned 65 last April and she’s continued to sport ‘the natural look’ that is still trendy today.
Since the 90s, she has emphasised the importance of having clean and healthy skin to master her signature look, but how does she achieve this?
In conversation with The Chalk Board Magazine, Brown in NYC says, “getting that glow has so much to do with what you put in your body. It’s all about the crossover between the inner and the outer.”
No, this does not mean you have to eat boring boiled vegetables everyday. Brown loves chocolate whether it means adding a block or two of chocolate into her shakes or eating it plain for dessert.
However, one of her all-time favourite ways to get her sweet fix while simultaneously satisfying her skin needs, is to whip up her very special hot chocolate recipe.
Brown’s chocolate-y concoction also includes her star ingredient, collagen, to help benefit her skin in terms of elasticity, smoothness, radiance and hydration.
But collagen does so much more than just that – it provides strength, structure and resilience throughout the body – from the tendons, ligaments, cartilage, muscle, lungs, heart and bones, to the body’s blood vessels, lungs, heart gut and eyes, according to Ashley Jordan Ferira, PhD, RDN and Vice President of Scientific Affairs at mindbodygreen.
She also notes that as the body ages, less collagen is produced, so the skin loses its suppleness and
agility. Hence, the perfect way to counteract this process is by incorporating high-quality collagen into the diet.
“Getting that glow has so much to do with what you put in your body. It’s all about the crossover between the inner and the outer.”
Below is a list of some of the best collagen powders you can add to the hot chocolate recipe.
But first, here is exactly what you need to prepare the drink and how to do it. This was inspired by mindbodygreen’s article, which summarises Brown’s blog post dedicated to their collagen.
Bobbi Brown’s Hot Chocolate Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup milk of your choice (Brown suggests oat, almond or full-fat coconut milk)
- 1 scoop of your source of collagen (options below)
- Optional: 1-2 teaspoons of raw cacao powder for that extra chocolate taste
Method:
- Heat and froth the milk until it is foamy, just the way you like it (Note, Brown swears by her
Nespresso milk frother, but a hand frother works just fine too) - Add in the collagen powder and cocoa powder (if using) to the mixture
- Stir until well combined
- For a silkier consistency, froth the mixture again
- Sprinkle extra cocoa powder on top of the froth
- Sip and enjoy!
