A luxury Jakarta, Hotel, the five star Alila Jakarta Hotel

For location, facilities, food and a sensational pool, Alila Jakarta is a sensational place to stay and soak up the bustling Jakarta vibe.

Overall rating: 8/10

Alila is known for idyllic, calm hotels that provide retreat-like accommodation and facilities by the ocean. And they have brought their seamless style to Jakarta with this new property.

Location: 9/10

This inner-city hotel is in one of Jakarta’s best locations, in the middle of the city and offers a sparkling, modern haven within the bustle of this thriving Asian city.

Jakarta can be a tough town to get around in, with traffic jams, little public transport and a population of over 10 million. It’s also not pedestrian-friendly, due to both the heat and lack of town planning for walkers, so location is critical.

Service & Facilities: 8.5/10

Days can be spent pool-side or shopping at the many malls just steps from the hotel, or indulging at one of the many restaurants within and just outside the property.

With the newly opened super chic Haakasan Restaurant including its spectacular rooftop bar being accessed within the hotel, Alila SCBD is now one of the hottest, hippest places to stay.

Modern, asian restaurant Hakkasan Jakarta
Hakkasan Jakarta is one of the city’s hottest luxury dining and drinking spots.

Allila SCBD takes care of all of this, and more, and is a stunning contemporary hotel to stay in if you like a modern feel and natural light, as the entire architecture in both the lobby, rooms and restaurant is designed around letting natural light in.

This hotel offers easy access to the business areas, and equally to shopping, markets and tourist sites for the tourist. But if you want to simply relax and indulge, everything from the luxury pool area, spa, and fitness centre to Haakasan are all on-site.

Rooms:  7.5/10

The rooms and suites have floor to ceiling windows that look out over the opulent modern surrounding buildings of the SCBD area, one of the most upmarket for shopping in the whole city.

Our room was white, with timber style floors, and a large desk. Beds are plush, and we found some natural chocolate sheets waiting for us when we arrived – delicious.

Bathrooms are spacious and modern, with white interiors, again lots of light and blackout curtains if you want to sleep. The bath was gorgeous and Alila’s own fresh brand of toiletries was provided.

Alila means ‘surprise’ in Sanskrit and one of the surprises in this hotel is the fitness centre. Whilst many luxury hotels in other parts of Asia including Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan are reducing the size of the fitness centre, Alila SCBD has a gym that is seriously spacious.

There are full-length windows, brand new equipment (both cardio and weights), and a change room equipped with saunas, showers and products provided by the hotel’s own brand, Alila Living.

The pool area is gorgeous, very large and open air. There is a lengthy lap pool surrounded by palm trees, and a smaller pool to relax in, all overlooking the skyscrapers of the city. You can spend hours chilling here.

Food and Drink: 8.5/10

The hotel’s main restaurant, Vong Kitchen designed by Rockwall group has a modern, contemporary New York club-style design with booths or tables, leather seating, wooden floors, and an open kitchen. There is an alfresco section too.

There is a fantastic bar, with excellent, creative cocktails, and it offers smoking or non-smoking areas.

Vong Kitchen has a menu created by Michelin starred chef Jean-Georges and his son Cederic Vongerichten packed with fabulous western fusion dishes, with French, American and Asian influences. It is also where an excellent -and long- breakfast is served.

Le Burger is a casual burger bar within the hotel, also popular with people staying and not staying in the property for quality hamburgers.

Alila SCBD offers some fabulous one on one tours. An easy way to take the stress out of a day in Jakarta and discover some of the soul of the city.

I did the Alila shopping experience which was absolutely terrific – I had an English speaking driver and tour guide who not only took me shopping to some of the most exclusive boutiques in the town, but also talked me through Jakarta’s history.

It was time very well spent, and I found some fabulous clothes. There are a lot more luxury venues in Jakarta than you might think.

The feel at Alila Jakarta is a blend of international expectations savvy travellers have come to expect from the Alila brand, with the exceptional pool area, as well as modern, urban features including towering ceilings in the lobby and delicious cuisine.

Instagram Opps: 9/10

From the pool area to the restaurant and even the rooms, there are lots of Instagrammable locations – Hakkasan being the best, especially on the roof.

Insider tip; Hakkasan Restaurant can be accessed from within the hotel.
