My Favourite Fragrances

It was Coco Chanel who said ‘ A woman who doesn’t wear perfume has no future’. And I can see where she’s coming from.

With so many  fragrances to choose from, it’s not easy to find the right one for you.

I am a big believer in having a signature scent – a fragrance you wear almost all of the time, that becomes a part of your daily routine and a part of who you are. When you walk into a room, and more importantly when you walk out of a room, you leave your scent behind, and people associate that scent with you.

I also like a few additional fragrances for night time or special occasions.

The first big tip is you need to try fragrances on your skin to see which ones suit you best. They smell differently when they are on your skin than in the bottle or on a fragrance card.

I love Michael Kors by Michael Kors (RRP $90.00), it is the original fragrance in the range. I do wish they would update the bottle a bit, as it is a touch old fashioned now, but the fragrance itself is fresh, young and feminine. The tuberose is elegant, sexy and enchanting as is the freesia, cashmere wood and vetiver. It is gorgeous in summer, and lingers.

I enjoy all of the Chanel fragrances, but Chance by Chanel (RRP $124.90) is a current favourite. Itwas created in 2003, and is a great warm weather fragrance, to for winter days when you want a kick. The patchouli combined with citrus and earthy, woody tones is strong but subtle enough not to be too overbearing, and turns heads. It also lasts.

French fragrance company Diptyque  has a stunning fragrance 34 Boulevarde St Germaine – Diptyque Paris 5e (RRP$100.00), named after the location of their shop in the heart of Paris. I discovered it one sunny afternoon in Paris when I was riding my bike along the Boulevarde, and I popped my purchase into the basket of the bike and rode home. Fragrances have the unique ability to capture a moment in time, and this one always reminds me of my bike trips around Paris, which are one of my favourite ways to unwind.

For a special night out, Tom Ford, Velvet Orchid (RRP $162.00) is strong, so don’t over do it. The sexy black bottle looks stunning in the bathroom, and sets the tone for an elegant night out. Bergamot and mandarin leap out in a fragrance that’s as daring as it is elegant. I feel this is too strong for me for day time.
